Tirunesh Dibaba had the pleasure of smashing her rival's world record. The improvement was a stunning 5.5 seconds. With Beijing just two months away, this is an amazing performance bodes well. She could double!
The 5,000 is Meseret's event. In fact, she was to attempt to break her own record this Sunday at the Prefontaine Classic but now the record belongs to her rival. Motivation should not be a issue this Sunday. It should be fun to watch.

You know, a WR in a swimming event was broken this week for 2 mins. only to be re-gained by it's former owner.
I wish Messeret will regain hers too - he's the better athlete and person.

Thanks for checking in. It has been tough in 2008 to write on the blog but still keeping up with the news of running world. Hopefully we will be more engaged as Beijing '08 nears. My running is still going OK at this point. Planning a half-marathon race in three weeks time.

I disagree with anonymous. Tirunesh is more talented that Meseret. However, Meseret is a better head to head performer.
Love the gutsy way she runs.
Would love to see these girls give 1500 a shot. I think they can beat the best of them including Jamal.

I agree with you that Tirunesh is a superior athlete to Meseret. I don't know what kind of training Tirunesh does but two years ago she was getting all those impressive results with light training for her caliber of competition. I think if Tirunesh trains as hard as Meseret, her performance will be at a completely different level- may be the 5K WR at Bislett games is just that. Having said all that, I will still root for Meseret in head-to-head match ups because her humanitarian work is so impressive that I can only wish the best for her in return.
As for the 1500M, I agree that they can take on anyone anywhere and get the win. Even Gelete Burka impresses me a lot when she runs
that distance and she should run it more.
