Open Thread: Men's 10000M Live

"As for these young ones, either I will end up staying on their heels or they'll be the ones doing that," said Gebrselassie with a smile.

The above is from a nice write up on the upcoming 10000M. It almost seems like Haile is taunting Kenenisa and Sileshi. Hopefully, we are about to watch history being made... chime in your thoughts.

I like Kenenisa but it will be great if Sileshi gets the gold this time. I think he had a chance for gold in Osaka last year but he was caught by surprise when the situation presented itself. Kenenisa was on the ropes and they let him back in. Look for one of the Tadesse brothers to go out on WR pace. I think it will take a sub 27 (which will be Olympic Record) to win this race. Sileshi looked race sharp winning both the Rome Golden League 5000 in July, and the Hengelo 10000 in May. I predict Sileshi to win the Gold... matching his fiancee's Gold from yesterday, and the two get married in a golden wedding in September.

NBC has women's vollyball on. Anyone if it's going to be on TV?

Everyone including the Ethiopian Team Leaders have been saying ten medals in Beijing was a reasonable expectation, topping the previous high from Sydney. Well, we have about 45 minutes to know whether this will happen or not. So far we had six athletes that competed and ONLY three that completed...

NBC showed Haile, Kenenisa, and Sileshi in their openning piece hyping up the race, so they will show it. I am also watching it on Ethiopian TV through jumptv.com to watch it when NBC will surely cut away at some point. I will write updates when NBC cuts away.

I was glad when I saw the promo for 10,000 on NBC thinking they were going to show it live. But now, its all women's Volleyball. This is really frustrating.

If NBC doesn't show it live... for anyone interested... I found this stream [http://www.justin.tv/aadd55]

Race just started and as expected Zeresenay goes straight to the front.

I could not open http://www.justin.tv/aadd5

Three Eritreans out of the front four. Clearly here with a team strategy of setting up Zeresenay for the win... fast paced race.

NBC just advertised the 10,000 again.

Kenenisa in 3rd, Sileshi in 5th and Haile 10th after 2kilometers.

runner,

I am watching that stream...if you can't get to it, then just go to justin.tv/directory and look for any channels streaming Olympics live. good luck. NBC will probablly be showing it with a tape delay as they're waiting for the basketball halftime

What do you make of the Eritreans leading? Set up for Kidane?

welemta said...

The pace is not fast.. just under 28 mins..

welemta said...

it's picking up now 27:42 pace.

welemta said...

Looks like the second Eritrean Kidane has dropped off.

Slow pace can't favor a Haile finish... but he is looking good.

welemta said...

The lapped runners are a major distraction.

This is going to be a nice finish!!!!!!!!

haile zim bilo mararthonun birot yeshalew neber....sooo close to a sweep... but this is great!!!!

Easy does it for Kenenisa. First thing he did After fisinshing is to turn to see how Haile did. Poor Haile! The slow race could not have helped him. Maybe he had a better chance in the Marathon.

That was an OR. Just shows you how fast the last few laps were.

That was a nice finish. Bad finish for Haile.

Haile did well. I was hoping for 26:4X or low 50's for him to medal.

Kenya has improved a lot. They are making up ground.

Yekolo- You are right. Kenenisa's kick indeed has no answer.Sileshi appears to be content with Silver. He needs to see a shrink to get passed Kenenisa. Until Sileshi decides to risk his sure silver medal and dictate a race (and possibly crashing at the end) he will never win the gold medal in a race with Kenenisa.

I think Haile did a great job going to the front at 6K. This is likely the last time highly races on a track... except for the last lap of the 2012 marathon in some stadium in London.

Haile is a team player so nice to see him once again. Kenenisa looks like he can also win the 5,000.
